Some English students meet at the cafeteria. Each one has a particular problem with the language: grammar, spelling, punctuation, vocabulary or stressing words correctly. Watch the video and see the hilarious results.

And here is the script if you want to look at it.

Answering specific grammar doubts

Hi!
Some of you asked about these specific grammar points. Take a look at them and see if your questions have been answered. Otherwise we can have a look in class.

- So and such

- Neither...nor

- Another / other(s)
Extra explanation

- Book/hire
Can you "hire a language course"?
You book a course - you are filling one of a number of limited slots. You can hire a private teacher to help you pass a course - you then book certain hours with that teacher. You book an appointment at the hairdressers, book a table at a restaurant for a particular time. So book is more about hiring someone's time for a specific period/slot. Hence, book tickets for the theatre. Book a chef to go to your house for a specific purpose for a specific amount of time, but hire a chef to work at your restaurant.

Video comprehension: Life in the slow lane

This morning we talked about how some of us are always in a hurry and need to slow down a bit.
You can watch this video about the same topic, also seen from another point of view (companies, and in particular, Google). It may be a bit difficult but you can give it a go and do the comprehension exercises if you want.

LIFE IN THE SLOW LANE

Watch the video and answer the questions below:

1. What is the “slow movement”?
2. What has the Google company decided to do?
3. What results have they obtained?
4. How did the woman use to spend her evenings?
5. What changes has she made to her lifestyle and what are the consequences?

Watch again and complete the sentences below with one or two words:
1. We’d all be better off if we put the brakes on the _____________________ pace of our lives.
2. If you could go faster, how much more could you __________________ in a day?
3. People on projects that are trying to _____________________ make twice as many errors.
4. The Google company resists _________________ its employees.
5. I would just watch hours sort of _________________________
6. She even found time to write a thoughtful letter (on paper) to a
_____________________ friend.
7. “She’s sending me something via ______________________”
